Kiribati Overview
Kiribati is an island group in Micronesia straddling the equator and, until 1995, the International Date Line. These equatorial islands enjoy a typical tropical climate. Humidity is usually high but the even temperature and fresh sea breeze mean conditions are rarely too stuffy. The best time to visit the island is between the months of May to October.
Kiribati Main Attractions
Kiribati became famous for its Tarawa Atoll. It was the site of a major World War II in the late 1943. This major attraction has many artifacts such as bunkers and vehicles scattered throughout the atoll. There are also some artifacts in the surrounding water of the atoll such as the decaying Sherman tank near Red Beach 2 and a Japanese command bunker. Some highlights include the artillery guns and bunkers near Betio and the Betio Memorial at the cemetery.
Kiribati also takes pride on the islands that covers this group. One of the Outer Gilbert Islands, Butaritari is Kiribati’s greenest island with breadfruit, coconut, pandanus and other fruit bearing trees flourishing on its rich soils. Some of the isles of Kiribati come with an outstanding landscape. Another island in the central Kiribati is the Abemama. It is an atoll that surrounds a deep blue lagoon. Some of the islands are actually coral islands. One of the famous coral atolls is the Abiang.

This sour drink is made from coconut sap. Friday is a common dance night for numerous Kiribati nightclubs. Beer is overflowing during the Friday nights. As for shopping, there are a wide number of local handicrafts available. These are generally made by the women groups from around the Gilbert group of islands. It’s worth a special note to grab the colorful tops worn by the local ladies called Tibuta.
