Tybee Island Overview
Tybee Island is a popular beach town 18 miles east of Savannah on the Atlantic coast of Georgia. The island's climate is warm during summer and cold during winter as the average temperature reaches 40's. It is best not to visit the island during Augusts because it gets the most of the precipitation.
Tybee Island Main Attractions
Although vacationers are lured to Tybee mainly because of what it provides in the way of recreation and relaxation, those with a love of history won't be disappointed. Tybee offers: Fort Screven, The Tybee Island Lighthouse, an intriguing museum, and Fort Pulaski National Monument. The Fort Pulaski National Monument is an imposing Civil War era fort designed to protect the coast region of Savannah.
Second stop is Tybee Island Light Station. It is Georgia's oldest and tallest lighthouse that includes a complex of history support buildings and 187 steps to the top. Second and the last on the list is the Tybee Island Museum at Fort Screven's Battery Garland which is directly across from the Tybee Island Lighthouse Station. The museum outlines the history of Tybee as an integral part of America's coastal defense system.

Getting To & Around Tybee Island
When travelling by car to Tybee Island, GA-26 or US-80 is the only route onto the island and passes directly through Savannah on its way east. You can also reach the island boarding on a plane. Hilton Head International Airport is directly served by Interstate 95 and is located about 20 minutes north of Savannah.
