Sanibel Island Travel

Sanibel Island Overview

Sanibel Island is a city in Florida, entirely encompassing a barrier island west of Fort Myers. The peak travel season in Sanibel is January through April. Southwest Florida has some of the nation's mildest weather during this time making this particular area appealing to winter-weary travelers. For the time of visit, avoid the oppressively hot and humid summer.

Sanibel Island Main Attractions

Sanibel has been making every attempt to keep this beautiful island in its natural state. There are naturalized areas all over the island. The gorgeous naturalized beaches covered ankle deep in beautiful shells, sponges, driftwood, sand dollars, and so on. Shells cover a great bit of the sand, beach and ocean grasses and somewhat wild looking plants, seaweeds and aquatic plants are to be found between the homes and the water's edge. These are not weeds. This is not a dirty beach. You came crossed a naturalized area.

Sanibel Island is rich in brilliantly colored flowers and shrubs nearly all year long specifically bougainvillea. With the sub-tropical climate, tiny chameleons scurry about and you may see lots of cute, tiny tree fogs stuck to your condo door when you come home at night. If you're a bird watcher, there is also a sanctuary on the large estate on the island. You can see rare species of bird protected in the sanctuary like the Roseate Spoonbill. This is how much Sanibel's fauna and flora is lush.

Sanibel is famous for many recreational activities that drive tourists back to the island after a visit. The island is known as an ecological destination that showcases bird watching and collecting shells.
