Key West Overview
Key West is a city and an island of the same name, the county seat of Monroe County, and an island in the Florida Keys. It is considered the southernmost city in the continental United States. Key West claims to be the only city in the lower 48 states never to have had a frost and has a notably mild, tropical climate. The best season of the island is the dry season for it receives abundant sunshine and slightly less than 25 percent of the annual rainfall.
Key West Main Attractions
Key West is an enthusiast of animal protection and conservation, that they have established the McCoy Indigenous Park. It is the setting for this rescue operation that has released more than 20000 healed animals into the wild since 1993. They take care of any animal that needs attention, from sea birds to raccoons, and at any given time you might see up to 100 creatures healing at the center. Visitors are always welcome to visit their patients.
Key West not only cares for the injured animals but also for the mankind. The City of Key west has lost more than a thousand of its citizens to the AIDS epidemic. Thus, Key West has a memorial dedicated to those who suffered and deceased by the epidemic, the Key West AIDS Memorial. Some of the names are embedded in the sidewalk near the ocean, and made of flat smooth granite. The memorial was dedicated on World AIDS day in 1997.

Key West has a lot of great activities best for the whole family. A visit to the Key West Nature Reserve is worthwhile for enjoying the sightings of the island's wildlife such as lizards, butterflies and maybe even snakes. Key West enjoys a pristine ocean front which is great for handful of water sports and activities. Just imagine yourself snorkel the reefs or sail for seeing the stunning sunset.

Searching for a great place to stay in Key West, accommodations from simple hotel rooms to splurging condominiums are scattered all over the island. Some of the loud names of the lodgings are Home Key West, Curry Mansion, Doubletree Grand Key Resort and many other names. Dining has never been a problem during a stay in Key West. There is a long list of restaurants in the island, from fresh fish to delectable lobster to fresh tropical fruits and vegetables. For the long list of restaurants, it can be simplified to three categories: budget, mid-range to splurge.
Key West Shopping & Nightlife
Many guests of Key West sometimes missed out most of the actions and adventures of the day. Why? There are a large number of drinking establishments of various types, a great chance for a loud and exciting nightlife. Key West is not like Miami. There aren't many high end shops or big name brands. While there are a few, Key West is not the place for this type of shopping.
Getting To & Around Key West
Key West International Airport is served by several airlines, though a short runway prevents big jets from landing. Direct flights are available from Atlanta, most major cities in Florida, and also some flights from the Bahamas to Key West.
