Crete Overview
Crete is the largest Greek island and is located in the Mediterranean Sea between the Sea of Crete and the Libyan Sea, south of Peloponnese. Crete has temperate Mediterranean climate. The best time to visit the island is during the months of July and August. The sea by this time is wonderfully warm and if you search a little it is possible to find villages and beaches that remain fairly quiet.
Crete Main Attractions
The famous attraction of Crete is the variety of landscapes in short distance: the wilderness and solitude of the Cretan Mountains some hundred meters away from the coast. These mountains are snow-capped alongside rolling hills covered with olive trees. Crete has far more epidemic plants than any other islands in Europe. The best part of this is that all of these wonders are gifts of nature, an unspoiled beauty.
Another attraction of Crete is the mix of locals staying in the island for different reasons. Crete is also a mixture of large tourist resorts, small fishing villages, remote settlements and cities such as Chiana and Heraklion which have been inhabited for almost 8000 years. Whether you come to Crete for the sea and the sun, the culture and traditions, the peaceful villages or the dramatic landscapes, there is always something for everyone.

Activities in Crete are bound to be enjoyable for everyone. Apart from the traditional swimming and relaxing by the beach, the resorts offer different land and water sports for everyone. You can enjoy paragliding, climbing, hiking and camping, windsurfing and surfing, water skiing, scuba diving and even horseback riding. However if you feel like having a more intellectual and eye-opening type of activity you can pay a visit to different interesting sites in Crete like archaeological sites, cultural sites, museums and galleries. You can also do some strolling and find some locals playing folk music and songs.

Accommodation is not a problem in Crete. Every tourist spot on the island has hotels, villas and apartments near them. The personnel in the every hotel are very accommodating and hospitable. Cretans consider food as a very important ingredient in life and good is an integral part of a good holiday, so restaurants offering fine and quality food are scattered all over the place. Greek and Cretan cuisines are served along with the freshness of ingredients and a great setting for a good appetite.

Crete has one of the most vibrant nightlife scenes in all the Greeks islands. Cretans present a lively night scene along with some drinks, music and dancing. Shopping is not a problem in Crete. You can find all sorts of shopping you can ask for.
Getting To & Around Crete
You can reach the island by getting on a plane in Athens by Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines. From April till early November there are flights coming from Europe. You can also reach the island by boat using ferry service from Athens to Iraklion, Rethimno and Hania and from Thessaloninki and Cyclades to Heraklion.
