Latin America Islands Overview
The islands of Belize and Equador in Central and South America are very popular. Belize is best visited between December and May while the Galapagos Islands (Equador) does not have a lot of seasonal variations and can be visited year-round.

Ambergris Caye is the largest of all the Belize islands and Caye Caulker is just one mile off the stunning Belize Barrier Reef. The Galapagos Islands boasts of unique geographic formations and is the evolving place of some of the most unusual species like the giant tortoises etc. Santa Cruz is the main inhabited island of the Galapagos archipelago.
San Pedro is the main town of Ambergris Caye. The top dive locations on this island include the Blue Hole, Belize Barrier Reef and the Turneffe Island Atoll. For some great marine wildlife sightings, head to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Top diving sites on Caye Caulker Island include Coral Gardens, Sponge Avenue and Caye Caulker North Cut. The Caye Caulker Forest Reserve is excellent for birdwatchers.
Puerto Ayora is largest town of Santa Cruz. On Santa Cruz, the Charles Darwin Research Center showcases a wealth of information about the Galapagos Islands. It also has tortoise-rearing pens in which miniature giant tortoises are enclosed in a bid to increase its species. Dragon Hill is the nesting place for land iguanas. Beautiful frigate birds, marine iguanas and sea lions can be seen on the North Seymour Island whereas the South Plaza Island has striking vegetation as well as sightings of sea lions, and a host of birds.

Scuba diving, snorkeling, tarpon fishing, sailing expeditions or cruises are some activities on Ambergris Caye as well as on Caye Caulker. Galapagos islands offers some of the best diving spots and on Santa Cruz there is also horseback riding, hiking, biking, fishing, wildlife and of course the beaches.

Ambergris Caye has expensive resorts while Caye Caulker is more affordable. San Pedro has many restaurants to choose from and you can enjoy good seafood at Caye Caulker. Although Galapagos Islands are mostly visited on cruises, the islands of Santa Cruz, Isabela, San Cristobel and Santa Maria also offer hotels, hostels and resorts. 'Ceviche', a cold seafood soup is a local delicacy on these islands.

Some of the best nightlife in Belize is on Ambergris Caye as is the shopping which includes local handicrafts. Mexian islands such as Cancun and Cozumel are also buzzing of an evening!
Getting To & Around Latin America Islands
International flights to Belize arrive at Philip Goldson International Airport and the islands can be reached by flights or boats. On the islands itself, a golf cart or by foot is the most common way to get around. International flights to Ecuador arrive at Quito and Guayaquil. Although domestic flights operate to the Galapagos Islands, traveling by cruises seem to be more popular.
