Reunion Island Travel
Reunion Island Overview
Reunion Island is located in the Indian Ocean, just east of the island of Madagascar. This island is one of many French overseas territories. It’s highly advised that you avoid visiting the island during the cyclonic season of November to April. Other than that, any other time is a great time to visit Reunion Island.
Reunion Island Main Attractions
One of the top attractions on Reunion Island is La Fournaise. It is one of the world’s most active yet safest volcanoes to see. La Fournaise can often be seen erupt with slow lava flows lurching down the mountain and into the ocean. You can also visit the less active parts of the area by car and drive over landscapes filled with rock formations of varying colors and huge craters.
Another great place to visit on Reunion Island is Maison du Vulcan. This museum offers a great look at the island’s volcanic activity with interesting interactive displays, movies and exhibits. There are also some lakes and waterfalls, some accessible, some remote, that promise memorable moments. The island is also the home of beautiful beaches like the black sand beaches in Etang Sale and Saint Paul, and the white sand beaches in Saint Gilles, Saint Leu and Saint Pierre.
Reunion Island Activities
Reunion Island has nearly 1000 kilometers of hiking trails, so it’s a given that going for a hike is at the top of the list of things to do. But if you would like to get a bird’s eye view of the whole island, you can pay for a ride on a helicopter to see the spectacular offerings of this magnificent place. Making a trip to the southern coast of the island is also a must-do. All southern villages have kept their heritage. And of course, there’s always the option of hitting the beach and partaking in water sports.
Reunion Island Accommodation & Dining

Don’t forget to ask about the spiciness of some food though as they don’t hesitate to make use of the wonderful spices available all around the island.

As far as shopping goes, you can find traditional objects in some shops but it’s more advised to go to a market to find the cheaper options.
