Hawaii Islands Overview
Hawaii is a unique holiday destination entirely surrounded by water and brimming with history and traditions. It’s relatively diverse set of climate zones makes it enjoyable almost through the year although from December to April, Hawaii receives its heaviest rainfall. The main Hawaiian Islands are Maui, Oahu and the Big Island. These Hawaiian Islands present some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world with lovely beaches, colorful sunsets, rainforest and fascinating wildlife. The coral reefs of the islands conceal fascinating sea creatures which are a sight to behold. Big Island is the largest of the lot with different climatic zones. Oahu has some of the most world renowned beaches. Maui’s charming seaside community of Lahaina is where the tourists flock. Those wanting to get away from it all can pick Kauai, Lanai or Molokai.
Hawaii Islands Main Attractions
The main attractions of the Big Island include the family-friendly Hapuna beach along the Kohala coast. Punalu’u beach has black sand and Mauna Kea beach is a picture-postcard beach with golden sands, coconut groves and blue waters. Humpback whales can be spotted during winter on Big Island. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park attracts adventurers. Oahu has the world-famous white sanded Waikiki beach and Honolulu.
The peak of Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor and the Punchbowl Memorial are the other major sightseeing spots in Oahu. A Maui trip is incomplete without visiting Haleakala National Park, the Iao Valley and the coastal regions of Kaanapali and Lahaina and Wailea beach, Big Beach is a must-visit. The Molokini crater and the volcanic crater near Wailea are top diving spots.
Hawaii Islands Activities
On Big Island one can indulge in sunbathing, surfing, whale watching, scuba diving, swimming with the dolphins and hiking through the lack lava beds near Mount Kilauea. Oahu also is great for whale watching, swimming, horseback riding and snorkeling. Oahu nature tours are popular as are hikes on the Kalalau Trail. True relaxation can be had on Maui but anglers can hope for exotic catches aboard a fishing charter and various cruises like diving or dinner cruises can be enjoyed. Scenic drives are also a nice way of passing time on Maui Island.

Accommodation is plentiful on each island and ranges from rentals, discount hotels to charming bed and breakfast and the most luxurious resorts. Hawaii’s cultural diversity has made Hawaiian cuisine a fusion of various cuisines but Poi and Spam are staples of Hawaiian food. All the islands have plenty of local eateries and fine dining establishments.
Hawaii Islands Shopping & Nightlife
The usual nightclub activities can be enjoyed on the islands but for a truly memorable evening, attend a ‘luau’ which is a traditional Hawaiian celebration.
Getting To & Around Hawaii Islands
Honolulu international airport is the main airport but some other islands too are serviced by both international and interisland flights. The best way to get around the islands is by cars or scooters.
