Shetland Islands Overview
The Shetland Islands are an archipelago in Scotland. The islands lie to the northeast of Orkney. Shetland enjoys a maritime subarctic climate with long but mild winters and short, cool summers. The Shetland Islands are home to a number of unique domesticated animals. One of these amazing animals is the domesticated Shetland Ponies. Shetland ponies are short, stout horses with a rotund stomach, measuring waist-high to an average human even when fully grown. Despite their diminutive size, they can be quite curious and have the tendency to push around instead of allowing you to lead them.
Shetland is well represented by the history that inhabited the islands through some artifacts and relics found in the islands. There’s a well-preserved broch thousand years of age. This historical circular structure can be found on Lerwick jutting out into a loch. There is also the Shetland Museum and Archives. It is a very modern museum providing a detailed background of the Shetland Islands. This museum hold exhibits for any unique events and for a glimpse of the Shetland’s modern art.
