Brechou Island Overview

Brecqhou is a privately owned island that lies off the coast of Sark. The island was bought by the Barclay Brothers in 1993 for the amount of £2.3 million. The climate of the island is temperate and experiences mild damp cloudy winters and warm dry sunny summers. The best time to visit the island is between the months of April and October.

Brechou Island Main Attractions

It’s highly recommended that you visit the castle found on this island. The castle is a great historical building that stands even as many generations have passed. You can learn about the island’s history and think of a time gone by.

Another attraction of Brecqchou is the unspoiled natural beauty of the island. You will easily feel welcomed by the lush greenery and crystal clear waters. Since it is privately owned, Brecqchou isn’t as crowded as other tourist spots that you know, making the island a great place to have a relaxing and peaceful vacation.

Brechou Island Activities

But just because it’s not as crowded doesn’t mean that the island is boring. You can partake in different activities like enjoying the calm waters and cool ocean breeze by the beach. Sunbathe and work on your tan lines or even enjoy some water sports. You can also immerse yourself in nature and explore the flora of the island.

Brechou Island Accommodation & Dining

Finding a hotel in Brecqchou is so close to impossible that it’s better to pack up your camping tools and sleeping bags. The island is more of a self-catering accommodation. But with its lush natural sceneries, there’s really no room to complain so just enjoy it. Much is the same with the dining experience in Brecqchou. Unless you find yourself staying at the home of the Barclay Brothers where staff members are always at your beckon call, it would be easier to catch your own dinner from the surrounding seas rather than try to find a place to eat.

Brechou Island Shopping & Nightlife

Don’t try to find any bars and nightclubs either. The nightlife on Brecqchou pretty much consists of heart to heart talks right by a campfire, stargazing and enjoying the cool breeze of the night. When it comes to shopping, it’s all about meeting your self-catering needs. There are markets to avail of what you may need for your stay on the island but if you want that great shopping experience, you might want to wait until you get to the mainland.

Getting To & Around Brechou Island

You can reach Brecqchou by first travelling to the two closest airports which are the Guernsey Airport and the Jersey Airport. Visitors to Brecqchou would then need to hire for a boat or a sea plane as there are no airports on the island and it can only be reached by sea or air.
