The isle of Arran can be found in south-western Scotland, in the Firth of Clyde near Glasgow. The island is the seventh largest island in Scotland, but it is technically one of the Hebrides, being the southernmost of the Scotland. The island enjoys a cool temperate climate. The best time to visit the island is during the months of May and June for they are the generally driest months.

The wonderful beaches of Arran are great attractions. Each beach is unique from the other. Most of the beaches, like the ones in Lamlash are mostly stony but there are several sandy beaches. Cleat’s coast also features Scotland’s naturalist beach and is one of the 11 naturalist beaches of the United Kingdom.

Arran also provides a wonderful vacation experience that can take you around to other wonderful attractions on the island. Explore your photography skills by taking part of tours to different castles and capture the photogenic history of the island. There are also different gardens with picturesque views and ambiences perfect for reflecting. It is also recommended that you take tours of breweries and distilleries.

And while it’s not really a shopping capital, Arran is a great place to avail of local arts and crafts that can serve as décor to your own home or a souvenir for all of your friends.

Getting To & Around Arran Island

If you want to make a visit to Arran, you can reach the island using one of two ferries operated by Caledonian McBrayne. The nearest airports to Arran are Glasgow Prestwick and Glasgow International on the mainland of Scotland. Once you find yourself there, your Arran vacation is just a ferry ride away.
