The U.S. Virgin Islands is an unincorporated organized territory of the United States of America between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, east of Puerto Rico. It was formerly known as the Danish West Indies. Together with the British Virgin Islands, to the northeast, the territory forms the Virgin Islands archipelago. The US Virgin Islands has a tropical climate, tempered by easterly trade winds and have little seasonal temperature variation. It is best to visit during the dry season, from December to April.

Seven Arches Museum is one of the famous attractions of US Virgin Islands. It was once a Danish craftsman's residence then made into a "welcoming arms" staircase that leads to second level of floral framed front doorway. Dramatic high walls surround this intriguing complex completed with rooms filled with antique mahogany furnishings. A highlight is an old brick oven housed in a separate cookhouse.

Another attraction of the US Virgin Islands is the Government House. It is the official residence of the Governor of the Virgin Islands. The architectural design is typical of older homes and public buildings throughout the West Indies. The second floor reception area is open to the public during the week. At the food of the front steps there is an authentic Danish guardhouse. . It was presented as a gift to the people of the Virgin Islands by the Danish government in 1967 - marking the 50th anniversary of the transfer of the islands to the United States.

Ferries run between all three US Virgin Islands, as well as to and from the British Virgin Islands and, on a seasonal basis, Puerto Rico. Cruise ships also call in at the US Virgin Islands.
