Waiheke Island Overview
Waiheke Island is an island in the Hauraki Gulf, just off the North Island of New Zealand. It is the second largest of the Hauraki Gulf Islands, the most populated and the most accessible with regular ferry and air services. Situated in the Hauraki Gulf, Waiheke Island enjoys a subtropical climate and 100 km of coastline. The climate is slightly warmer than Auckland with less humidity and rain and more sunshine hours.

History is not only the thing in Waiheke but also scenic and picture perfect sceneries. A peek to this sightseeing is the Stony Batter. It is about a one and a half kilometer walk in the Eastern end of Waiheke that offers great views out over the Batter to Coromandel and several gulf islands. Exploration of the tunnel network in the area with a flash light is highly recommended. This is a fascinating place. Set among a landscape peppered with huge rocks, Stony Batter is a geological wonderland.

Getting To & Around Waiheke Island
If you want to travel by air to Waiheke, there are helicopter flights to the island. Also, you can travel by sea. It has more choices of ferry rides to reach the island. One of the trips is the Fullers passenger ferries that run down from Auckland to Waiheke.
