Poruma Island Overview
Poruma Island is located between Australia and Papua New Guinea in the Torres Strait Archipelago. The climate of the island like most of the islands of the coast of Queensland ranges from hot and humid in the far north to comfortable cool temperatures in the southeast. If you want the sunny days and warm weather, you must visit during the autumn and the spring. That's from March to May and from September to November.

Poruma Island is a home for delectable fruits just hanging by the giant trees. Poruma, which lies about midway along this island chain, is fairly typical of the inhabited islands - a narrow coral cay about two kilometers long with a village of about 200 toward its western end. The huts are situated on the western end of the island, the best location for beautiful sunsets. Islanders call this end "gaigalkuth" which means 'sunset end'. This provides a good view of the sunset and the great view of the horizon and the mainland of Australia.
