Bribie Island Overview

Bribie Island is a large sand island in the northern part of Moreton Bay, Queensland. The island is separated from the mainland by the Pumicestone Passage. The island has a tropical climate that attracts nature lovers, families and adventurers between November and April.

Bribie is blessed with great beaches. There are calm water options on the western side of the Bribie Island and lots of parks for picnics and free barbeques. Woorim Beach, on the eastern side of the island, has great facilities and there is usually small surf. It is a patrolled beach and perfect for a long walk along the sand. If you want an isolated beach, drive the partially unsealed road from Benalong Street and then walk the track to Skirmish Point.

The ecologically important Pumicestone Passage, formed by the channel which runs between Bribie Island and the Caboolture coastline, is a protected marine park and safe haven for dugongs, turtles, dolphins, incredibly diverse birdlife and an extensive network of mangrove swamps. This is where the Bribie Island National Park is established to impose the conservation of the marine life.

A haven for those seeking a "sea change", young families, water sport enthusiasts and nature lovers, Bribie offers a compact range of experiences for all age groups. Bushwalking, bike riding and bird watching are popular. Bike paths run from one side of the island to the other and short bushwalking tracks can be found surrounding the Community Arts Centre on Sunderland Drive. The Centre is also home to changing displays of painting and craft.
