Turtle Islands Overview
Turtle islands, locally known as Tawi-Tawi, lie in the south of Palawan, Philippines. Turtle Islands is a group of seven beautiful small islands. The Turtle Islands has a tropical rainforest climate. The country itself is tortured by West Pacific typhoons during the months of November to June so the best time to visit the islands is from the Months of May to December.
Turtle Islands Main Attractions
The famous attraction in Tawi-Tawi is the amazing wildlife of the islands. Besides from beautiful fish in the water surrounding it, Turtle islands, together with the three islands of Malaysia and the surrounding coral waters are the only homes of the Green Sea Turtles in Asia and in the whole world. The islands are declared to be a protected area to ensure a breeding area and a habitat for the turtles. You may go sightseeing to see these amazing creatures and if you time your visit right, you can also see them lay their eggs.
Another attraction of Tawi-Tawi is the amazing locale. The people of these islands are not only hospitable and accommodating but are also concerned about maintaining the natural wonders of the place. While hunting turtles and collecting their eggs have always been a possibility for extra incomes, locals have worked on minimizing these types of activities to protect what the islands take pride for.

You may go snorkeling or diving and swim with the Green Sea Turtles and other marine animals. You may also take a trip to this island to have nature trail studies. Turtle Islands Accommodation & Dining
If you happen to be a nature lover then you’re going to love the accommodations here. You could feel the nature within rented cottages made from native materials found around the islands. Nipa huts are the most common type of cottages you can find in the island. As for your dining experience, most of the food served around the islands is of the local cuisine which has been influenced by Latin and Asian flavors.
Turtle Islands Shopping & Nightlife
Once the sun sets, there’s a whole other Tawi-Tawi that you can enjoy. You can enjoy the sunset as dusk breaks and spend the night having around a campfire chatting with your friends. The place is very remote so there’s not much shopping to do. While there are some places that sell souvenirs and little trinkets, it’s not exactly shopper’s paradise.
Getting To & Around the Turtle Islands
You can reach the Turtle Islands via a plane or a boat. The Turtle Islands are very remote with regard to the Philippines proper and it is thus easier to fly to Sandakan in the Malaysian Sabah region of Borneo and then take an organized boat tour from there. If coming from Manila, you may need to go through Kota Kinabalu first. Kota Kinabalu is a 2-hour flight from Manila and the boat trip to Selingan is around an hour.
