Sumatra Overview
Sumatra Island, the sixth largest island in the world, is located at the North East part of Indonesia, and south of Malaysia. The island experiences an equatorial climate. Sumatra is located on both sides of the equator in equal halves; hence it is divided in two climatic zones. In the north of equator, October to April is the rainy season, while May to September is the dry season. In the south, rainy season falls from December to February. Given these facts, the best time ot visit Sumatra is during the months of September and October.

The famous attraction of Sumatra Island is its capital, the Medan City. Medan architecture shows strong Dutch influence. The buildings in the city that took the Dutch influence are commonly parts of Indonesian life, the banks, museum, worship buildings and even the judicial court. Another attraction of the Sumatra is the amazing geography of the island. Such geography gives the island amazing lakes situated at beautiful mountains. The lakes are the Lake Toba and Danau Ranau. Lake Toba is situated at a height of 1000 meters from the sea level. The picturesque mountain lake of Danau Ranau is one of the least spoiled of Sumatra’s mountain lakes and offers a relaxing and pacified ambience.
