Perhentian Overview
The beautiful coral-fringed islands of Perhentian lie off the coast of north eastern Malaysia in the state of Terngganu, not far from the Thai border. The islands are a diver’s paradise and are undisturbed and unspoiled unlike common Asian Beaches. The climate in Perhentian Islands is tropical, having the average of 30 degrees Celsius all year round. However, travellers are advised to about the November to January due to the monsoons. The best times to visit the islands are between the months of February to October.
Perhentian Main Attractions
The famous attraction of the island is the diversity of marine and land resources the island takes pride of. The Perhentian Islands are surrounded by a diverse mass of coral reefs for the marine animals to live and propagate. The islands are actually part of a marine park, so fishing, collecting of corals and littering is strictly prohibited. The islands are covered with lush rainforests and there are no established roads in the island.
Another thing to look at is the types of establishments in the island. There are no big buildings on the island in order to protect the natural environment. One thing that may surprise you upon searching for a bar or a place to stay is the sign of such is just attached unto a coconut tree outside the bar or hut. It might seem like such a little thing for protecting nature but it actually helps a lot.

Activities in Perhentian Islands include taking a dive to the famous dive sites of the island to witness what the locals are protecting and another is taking a hike to the highlands of the island to see the virginal beauty of the lush rainforest.

It is sure that it is a mouth-watering meal.

Nightlife in the island is different. Don’t expect any big parties but do expect some quality time. You could spend the late night setting up a camp fire and have heart to heart talks with your family, friends and diving buddies. Shopping in the island is limited. There are no big shopping malls in the island. What you could find are some souvenir shops and some food stalls.
Getting To & Around Perhentian
Located off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia, Perhentian Islands are reached though the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur in a few hours by road and ferry. However, for all the time and patience you will need for travelling to Perhentian Islands, you will be rewarded during your holiday. There are no roads in the islands, and your destination is small enough to be circled around with water taxis, or if you want to stay in one place – all you have to do during your day is to walk to the beach and back.
