Layang Layang Overview
Layang Layang Island, known as the newest premier dive destination by dive enthusiasts, is located at the northwest of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. The name Layang Layang means “Shallow Reef.” The island has an equatorial climate with the months of November to February not being the ideal time to visit the island for the heavy monsoon rains fall during these months. The solitary resort of this island is open during March to October.

The island is famous for 2000 meters of underwater experience you could enjoy diving in the waters of the island. Diving around the island is renowned for the sightings of hammerhead sharks and large number of species of marine life, and for wall diving on the undisturbed reefs. There are twelve or more diving sites around the island that takes only 5-15 minutes of boat ride to reach every diving site. If you really want to encounter the elusive hammerhead sharks, it is recommended that you visit the Point. This is where the hammerhead sharks most probable to show up.
Another attraction on Layang Layang Island is the large population of birds that inhabits the island before a naval base was established on 1980s. a population limit was actually set on the island in order to protect the marine life and the wide variety of bird species that can be found on the island.
