Koh Chang Island Overview
Ko Chang is Thailand’s second largest island. It is located at Trat Province in Eastern Thailand and can be found at about 330 kilometers from Bangkok. It is the best season to visit the island is during the cool season between November and February. One would find it too hot to travel in Koh Chang on the months of March until May, while during the months of June and October, it rains.
Koh Chang Main Attractions
The White Sand beach has been a constant favorite of tourists when they visit the Koh Chang Island. At the back of the stretch of the beach, there are orchards of coconut trees and forests. North of the beach is the White Sand Beach Resort which offers 100 bungalow near the beach.
Among other attractions on the island is the Mu Ko Chang National Park which Ko Chang and 46 other islands are part of. The War Memorial Monument and a number of waterfalls like Klong Plu, Klong Nonsi, Klong Nueng, Klong Petch, Kongoi and the Thanmayom. Also, there are the Ko Chang Naval Battle site, Ko Ngam, Ko Mai Si, Ao Khlong Son, Namtok Khlong Nonsi, Namtok, Khlong Phlu and the Long Beach or also known as the Hat Sai Yao. The monkey training is also worth taking in.
Koh Chang Activities
Activities that one can do are canoeing, diving, hiking, going on package tours, snorkeling, trekking, visiting the waterfalls, sailing, elephant trekking and going to the spa.
Koh Chang Accommodation & Dining
Food and dining in the island is similar as to that of the rest of Thailand. However, the price does vary due to higher transportation cost of the materials. Restaurants are plenty and dynamic on every beach and is open all day long. Restaurants in the beaches do not only offer savory meals of seafood and Thailand’s exquisite cuisine cuisine but as well as the romantic view along the beach. Koh Chang’s very own wine is also something visitors and tourists should not miss. Accommodations in the island are mostly located at the west side of the island all along the coast, down to the coast. Prices tend to go cheaper as you move farther from the port.
Koh Chang Shopping & Nightlife
The Market can be found along the main road, the White Sand Beach is a common place to find stores. At the main western coastline road you will find the convenience stores. Among others, tourists can shop at the following stores: Amphoe Laem Ngop, Amphoe Mueang, and Amphoe Ko Chang. Nightlife in Ko Chang is in constant development, however, this island is not yet the place for party junkies.
Getting To & Around Koh Chang
It would not be difficult for one to reach the island since Bangkok Airways has flights three times a day from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to Trat. Flights are at 09:00, 12:15 and 16:35. Flight lasts for about an hour and five minutes. The island can also be reached by boat and bus. However, one must not expect too much as the ride may not be as comfortable as one would desire. Taxis and limousine are also available in the island for those who are traveling luxuriously.
