Kapas Island Overview

Kapas Island is five kilometer east coast of the peninsular Malaysia in the state of Terengganu. One can travel anytime throughout the year but if one would prefer peace and tranquility, it would be best for them to travel on weekdays while the locals are working. Most resorts are off the job on monsoon seasons from November to February. It is preferred that tourists go on months of June, July, August and September.

Kapas Main Attractions

A World War II shipwreck north of Gemia island is popular for diving activity and has been a main attraction eversince. Colorful fishes, turtles, corals and other members of the sea can be seen swimming underneath the azure waters.

Bukit Tabur and Cameron Heights are two of the few attractions in the Kapas Island. There is not much to go around to but to enjoy the beauty of nature with the island’s rich marine life is priceless. It must be noted however that there is no sand beach at the west coast of the Kapas Island since there are only rocks. It can be reached by a long walk through the jungle.

Kapas Activities

Activities that one can enjoy in the island are swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, windsurfing and kayaking. Unfortunately, motorized activities are not allowed in the island. No banana-boats in this island and even jet skis. The simplicity of the island will make it possible for anyone to relate to nature’s wonders under the sea.

Kapas Accommodation & Dining

Accommodations are plenty with resorts governing the island. There are approximately nine resorts in Palau Kapas and one in Palau Gemia. There are also dormitories which one can easily avail. Room rates ranges from RM20 to RM300 per night. The nine resorts in Kapas Islands are Turtle Valley Chalet, The Light House, Duta Puri Island Resort, Kapas Island Resort, Kapas Beach Chalet, Makcik Gemok Beach Resort, Qimy Chalet, Kapas Garden Resort and the Harmony Camp Site. While the lone resort found in Gemia Island is the Gem Island Resort and Spa.

Kapas Shopping & Nightlife

Malaysia as a whole is a shopper’s paradise. Strategically located at the cross roads of Asia, it gives its visitors the best things it can offer. The treasures of the Orient, from branded designer clothes to intricate local handicrafts, you will find it here in Malaysia. And Kapas Island is of no exception. Comparatively, the Malaysian Ringgit exchange is much lower than the others enabling shoppers buy more.

Getting To & Around Kapas

Reaching Kapas Island, Malaysia would be easy. Driving from Kula Lumpur, one could take the Karak and East Coast Highway and drive towards Kuala Terengganu after one exists the Highway. Follow the coastal Highway 3 and pass the town of Kemaman, Kijal, Kerteh, Dungun, Rantau Abang befre even reaching Marang. The drive will take about seven hours. Once you arrive in Marang, follow the directions going to Jeti Marang and will be there in five minutes. Speed boats are also available and would coast RM30 for a return trip. Closest airport is in Kuala Terengganu and is about thirty minutes away. Air Asia and Malaysian Airlines has daily flights to Kuala Terengganu from Kuala Lumpur.
