Bintan Overview

Bintan can be found less than 40 kilometers Southeast of Singapore and is twice the size of the country. It is the largest of the 3,200 islands in the Riau Islands and the third largest of the provinces of Indonesia.

Bintan Main Attractions

The Bintan Elephant Park has always been a favorite tourist spot in Bintan. This has been a home for eight brilliant Sumatran elephants that were trained to perform different tricks to amuse and entertain the tourists. The tourists can watch in awe as they see the elephants make perfect-360 degrees turn on their hind legs and jive to disco music. The visitors can also feed the elephants while learning about their nature. Shows starts at 10:00 on weekdays and Saturdays and an additional show on Sundays at 16:00.

Among the other attractions one visit in Bintan is the Penyengat Island. Also known as the” Souvenir Market”, Pasar Oleh Oleh is also one of the tourists’ favorite spot to go to. Tanjung Pinang and Tanjung Uban are also places one must not miss to visit. Masjid Raya Sultan Mosque, Banyan Tree Temple, Snake River Temple, Senggarang Chinese Village, Raja Haji Fisabillah Monument, Trikora Beach, Sebung Village, and the Santa Maria Cave are also the places tourists must see to explore the beauty of this spectacular island.

There are a lot of things that one can do in Bintan such as golfing, water skiing, scuba-diving, go-karting, paint balling and relaxing in spas. Island trekking, all-terrain vehicles and mountain biking are also possible activities that one can enjoy in the island.

Nirwana Gardens is one of the few popular night venue in BIntan housing three classy options to choose from: Calypso Bar, The Pub and the La Luna. History has said that Bintan’s first nightclub, Silk at Bintan Lagoon Resort can be considered as the main hub for the island’s nocturnal people. Although there is not much of a shopping scene in Bintan, there are however unique souvenirs and neat bargains that shopaholics can satisfy themselves with. Best deals can be found in the local markets and what is best is the haggling of buyers for lower prices which is shop owners welcome.

Getting To & Around Bintan

Getting to Bintan can be made possible by its small airport which however, has limited amount of domestic flights. Others do a cutting trio and first fly to Singapore or Batam and would take a ferry to reach Bintan. Riau Airlines has regular flights to and from Jakarta as well as from Indonesia, to Bintan’s Kijang Airport.
