Batam Overview

Batam has been known to be Indonesia’s Special Economic Zone. It is located 20kilometers from Singapore and 25kilometer from Johor, Malaysia. The island has grown to be an industrial hub with factories springing from about anywhere in the island.

Batam Main Attractions

The Dolphin Lodge has been a favorite among tourists to visit. Batam, Indonesia is among the five only places that houses this kind of facility and has made available to public. A buffet lunch is also served and one may choose to relax under the sun or continue with their second session with two new dolphins with their trainers’ supervision. Participants are required to be of 1.35m height and are 10years of age and above to be allowed to interact with the dolphins, however those participants who fall short of the requirements will still be allowed to have partial interaction with the dolphins. Pregnant women will not be allowed to interact with the dolphins. The lodge can accommodate of 22 visitors per day. A package would cost around $145 per head excluding the service charge and seaport taxes.

Other attractions to visit are the Waterfront City; the Batam Cable Water Ski Park, and the Batam Temples to explore the rich culture of the land. The Barelang Islands is also a site one must see.

There are a lot of things that one can do during his stay in Batam. Aside from swimming, one can enjoy the sports that go along with it. Playing football is also made possible by some attraction in the island. One can also go for water skiing and test his skills. A tour around the Batam Temples is a must-do when one visits the island. There are also a lot of spas and massage parlors in the island ready to soothe your tired muscles and relax your soul.

The restaurants in Batam are well known for their tasty Asian and Western Cuisine not to mention their excellent seafood dining. Restaurants can be found everywhere in Batam – hotel restaurants, seafood restaurants, food courts and the local street-side stalls. Hotels and resorts can be found in various location throughout the island. Batam apartments on the other hand are a great alternative if one is traveling on a tight budget. These apartments require a cheaper price with almost the same service and accommodation.

Batam Shopping & Nightlife

Nightlife in Batam is lively and happening with pubs and bars everywhere! The center of the nightlife scene is in Nagoya, the main city of Batam. Most of the visitors stays in this area since the hotels are also near to the party spots. Shopping is also exciting as it is in Batam. They have several large shopping malls, a few small specialty shops and boutiques which sells good ranging from traditional Indonesian furniture and handicrafts to electronic and household goods. There are of course clothing and fashion shops. The mall and the shops are mostly open from 10am to 9pm daily and are open during holidays.

Getting To & Around Batam

Going to Batam can be made possible by wither plane or ferry. The island is easily accessible from Singapore and Malaysia and from other regions of Indonesia by domestic air routes. The Hang Nadim International Airport is where tourists can take their flight to reach this island.
